On March 28th, a ceremony was held in the Xianzheng Building to commemorate the donation of the Sunstone popular science book series, authored by Academician Wang Guofa of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, alongside the presentation of an academic report. President Song Baoan, himself an academician, met with Academician Wang on this occasion. Also in attendance at the donation ceremony were Zhang Dalin, Vice President of GZU, Li Mingzhong and Zhang Jinhu, Chief Scientistsof China Coal Technology & Engineering Group, and Academician AssistantWang Rui. Zhang Lin, Secretary of the Party Committee of the School of Mining Engineering, presided over the meeting.
President Song Bao’an cordially welcomed Academician Wang Guofa and his delegation, providing a concise overview of the university's developmental trajectory, recent accomplishments, and contributions tothe development “Meticulous Exploitation of Rich Mineral Resources” industry. He also highlighted the progress of related disciplines within College of Mining. President Song conveyed a sincere hope that Academician Wang would lend his expertise and support to the university's endeavors in talent development, scientific and technological innovation, and service to industrial advancement, fostering a mutually beneficial partnership characterized by deepened and strengthened collaboration leading to shared progress.
Academician Wang Guofa reflected on his past engagement with scientific research and engineering demonstration projects in Guizhou Province. He fully affirmed the development of mining and safety engineering disciplines at Guizhou University and offered constructive suggestions on discipline and specialty development and how to better serve the development of “Meticulous Exploitation of Rich Mineral Resources” industry.
At the donation ceremony, Zhang Dalin expressed his heartfelt gratitude to Academician Wang Guo for his long-standing concern and support for the development of College of Mining of our university. On behalf of the university, he accepted Academician Wang Guo's donation of the the Sunstone popular science book series and presented Academician Wang with a donation certificate.
Following the donation ceremony, Academician Wang presented an academic report titled “Development of Digital and Intelligent Technology and Equipment for Smart Mines.” In his presentation, Academician Wang meticulously detailed the current state and significant technological advancements in the field, addressing five key areas: the imperative of digital and intelligent transformation in energy and mining driving the evolution of smart mines; the research progress underpinning the digital and intelligent foundation of smart mine operations; the development of both broad-application mine large models and specialized models tailored to specific application scenarios; the integration of AI machine vision technology within intelligent mining systems; and the fostering of talent and the cultivation of career aspirations within the mining sector in this new era. Concluding his report, Academician Wang shared personal reflections on his professional journey, offering guidance and encouragement to the faculty and students, urging them to actively participate in the burgeoning smart mine industry, embrace technological careers, and strive to become leading scientists, engineers, and innovators in the field.
Relevant personnel from Office of International Relations, the Library, College of Mining, and Institute of Science and Technology attended the meeting. More than 200 faculty and students from College of Mining attended the academic report meeting.
